Independence Day, also known as “The Fourth of July”, marks the historic date in July 1776 when the Declaration of Independence was approved by the Continental Congress. It is a day of family celebration as the people of the United States give thanks for their freedom.
A brief history of Independence Day:

- Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Roger Sherman, and Robert R. Livingston formed the committee that drafted a statement justifying independence from Great Britain.
- The vote for actual independence happened on July 2nd, but the 4th became the Independence Day of the United States because of the formal declaration.
