Volunteers Week is an annual celebration of the contribution millions of people across the UK make through volunteering. This year, Busy Bee Recruitment have decided to focus on all the amazing volunteers who are continuing to help and support our nation through this difficult time.
Why Volunteer?
People choose to volunteer for a variety of reasons. Volunteering offers an opportunity to connect with the community by providing necessary support to people in need thereby making a difference to their lives. Volunteering is also a great way to gain new skills, knowledge and experience that can help advance your career.
Volunteering and COVID-19.
There are many ways you can volunteer and support others during COVID-19 providing you are well, under 70, not pregnant and not classed as a vulnerable person. Here are a few ways you can help:
- Look out for the vulnerable people – offer to help with shopping and other errands.
- Check on your neighbours
- Join a Community Volunteering Group
- Help with Food Banks and Homeless Services
- Contact your local Volunteer Centre
- Sign up to NHS Volunteer Responders Programme
Stay Safe When Volunteering.
You can reduce your chances of being infected or spreading COVID-19 by taking some simple precautions:
- Stay outside of people’s homes
- Keep at least two metres distance from those you are helping
- Wash your hands regularly
- Support friends and family using phone or video chat where possible
- Do not volunteer if you have coronavirus symptoms
