There are many questions that you must ask yourself before making any decisions, it is important not to rush your brand-new recruitment process. - Deciding what it is you need: Before making your first hire, you will need to establish what type of person you are ideally looking for along with the desired experience and skillset.
- Set up contracts: Be sure to send details of the job including terms and conditions in writing to your new employee. You will need to give your employee a written statement of employment if you’re employing them for longer than a 1 month period.
- Decide how much you want to pay someone: Remember that you must pay your employee at least the Minimum Wage for their age group.
- Be sure to tell HMRC of your new employee: You must contact HMRC to inform them of your new employee up to 4 weeks before you pay them.
- Check for their right to work in the UK: When searching for a new employee, it is essential to complete the relevant checks. One of these is to check their eligibility to work in the UK e.g. Passport or Birth Certificate
- Get employment insurance: When you make your first hire, you will need to get employers’ liability insurance.
