World Health Day and the NHS

Written by
World Health Day is a global health awareness day which is celebrate every year on 7th April since 1950. Each year is focused on health issues that happened throughout the year. This year we are focusing on our health care professionals and the NHS and the impact that they have on the world. Due to the recent climate we want to celebrate these amazing professionals and want to thank them for their hard work and commitment during this difficult time.

Why is World Health Day important?

It isn't just about washing your hands or healthy eating, it is about promoting healthier living and to increase life expectancy of people around the world. This day is also important to reflect on your own health. Conversations can help us understand illnesses and how to seek treatment and support. The day has a different theme each year which gives us a chance to learn something new about current world health issues.

Here are some ideas to stay healthy at work:

  • Exercise
  • Eat breakfast
  • Wash your hands
  • Stay hydrated - drink water
  • Don't skip lunch and don't eat at your desk
  • Avoid over-working yourself. If you have lots to do then prioritise and write a to do list or learn to say no
  • Don't ignore stress - if you are stressed, speak to someone in the workplace or a senior member of staff
  • Set up your work area and make sure you have everything you need to get on with your work
  • Move about and stretch your legs - take shortened breaks
  • Ensure the safety of yourself and your colleagues
Why is the NHS important?

The NHS is more than just a health service. It is part of British life and is what makes us proud to be British. Everyday political parties are fighting to protect it. The NHS is important to us because people get ill and have serious accidents and we need the professionals to help with the emergencies and diagnose, manage and treat different types of diseases and illnesses.

Love your NHS and the workers:

Research from the NHS Confederation states that every 36 hours over 1 million patients are seen by the NHS. This tells us that the service is being used at high demand and is always in use. NHS staff work so hard and it never goes un-noticed. Without the NHS we would not be able to function as a country and we need to think about how lucky we are to have such dedicated professionals to look after the countries health. Due to the current climate, the NHS staff are at higher demand and are working around the clock to save lives and keep the country going. Ex professionals have even been asked to go back into the service to help the community and the hospitals - now this is dedication!

Through this difficult and tough time just remember to be kind, help where you can and be supportive.
